Frequently Asked Questions
Q:Is there anything that I need to do before you get here?
The most vital thing that you, as a home owner or business owner, need to do is call a professional water damage restoration company like Restoration ACE. Once you have called us in, we make it our priority to make your experience from there on out as easy and stress free as possible. In the 60 minutes or less that it takes us to arrive, there are just a few minor tasks that you can begin, such as: move any furniture or possessions away from the affected areas, make sure the water is turned off in the event of plumbing related water damage, use a shop-vac to minimize the damage until we are on the scene, and most importantly, stay as calm as possible.
Q:Do I need a documented estimate before you begin the dry-out?
No. The overall dry-out time and extent of equipment needed is impossible to gauge exactly until the dry-out is completed. We will be happy to give you a ball park estimate to the best of our knowledge. As a certified restoration firm, we use industry standard and insurance required software to create the final estimate/bill for your insurance provider or you. This software itemizes and breaks down every last detail of the work we do with virtually no flexibility on pricing. The important thing is to begin the drying immediately when we arrive to minimize the overall damage to your property.
Q:How long does it take for mold to start growing?
Assuming that there are no pre-existing conditions, the faster acting types of mold, such as Penicillium and Aspergillus, spores can begin to colonize withing 48-72 hours. On the other hand, some of the slower acting molds can take up to 7 to 10 days. It really just depends, so the sooner you have your water damage problem taken care of the better.
Q:How do you know when everything is dry?
We use a moisture meter and take readings on all building
materials affected. Moisture meters the percentage of water in a given
substance. For instance, this is important to determine because if the
moisture content of wood is above 16% it can support microbial growth (such as
mold) on the surface. When the moisture content of wood is above 20% it can
support microbial growth on the interior of the wood (also known as dry rot).
Moisture meters can also test other building materials such as: drywall, carpet,
roofing, ceramic, tile, wall coverings, block/brick, concrete and more.
